Shattuck
Jaffrey, New Hampshire- Address53 Dublin Rd, Jaffrey, NH 03452, USA
Every hole is secluded on the layout at the Shattuck Golf Club because forests of oak, birch and pine trees frame the fairways. It’s been described as “18 separate gems strung together in a perfect setting”.
Laid out at an elevation of 3,000 feet above sea level in the foothills of Mount Monadnock, this lightly bunkered Brian Silva design occupies 157 acres of a densely forested property where daily fee paying players have been welcomed since 1991.
Notable holes include back-to-back par fives at the 5th and 6th, with the first of these (“The Gauntlet”) rated stroke index 1 on the scorecard. This tough hole features a long, narrow fairway with trouble on either side which leads to a creek-fronted green nestled on a 30-foot high rock ledge.
On the back nine, the par three 12th (“Waterloo”) requires a carry all the way from tee to green across a beaver swamp, while the fairway on the par four 18th (“Home”) slopes hard to the left into the woods as it heads towards the clubhouse and the biggest green on the course.
