Located ten miles north of downtown Detroit, the two 18-hole courses at Detroit Golf Club were designed by Donald Ross in 1916. With six par threes on the scorecard, the South course plays around 1,000 yards shorter than the North course.
“If there is a better side of Detroit to be on, this isn’t it,” asserted Tom Doak in The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses, “but somehow Detroit Golf Club has survived the city’s exodus in stride. The par-68 South course, retouched by Bruce Hepner rather than rebuilt, has most of the coolest features nowadays.”
